The Smart Schools Bond Act, approved by voters statewide in 2014, authorizes the use of bonds to finance a wide range of technology improvements in schools across the state.
On Sept. 16, representatives of Archi Technology presented a summary of a District-Wide Technology Infrastructure and Select Systems Upgrades plan, which include various security and communications upgrades, to the Phelps-Clifton Springs Central School District. The preliminary plan calls for $1,739,943 in upgrades, paid for with funding made available through the Smart Schools Bond Act. Proposed work includes:
- Improve Technology Rooms (spaces devoted to IT equipment) to meet standards.
- Upgrade cabling and pathways.
- Upgrade Public Address (PA) system to an IP-connected version with digital message displays.
- Installation of new perimeter door monitoring at all district school buildings.
- Upgrade large common and assembly areas with corridor electronic door lockdown hardware.
The public comment period opened on Tuesday, September 17, and remained open through Wednesday, Oct. 16. Residents may attend a public hearing on the Phelps-Clifton Springs Central School District Smart Schools Improvement Plan by attending a public hearing scheduled for 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 5, 2020, in Room 103 at Midlakes Elementary School, 1510 State Route 488, Clifton Springs.
