Girls Basketball Advances to B2 Final

FEB. 28, 2022 — Just days after her big sister led SUNY Morrisville into the NCAA DIII Tournament with an MVP performance, Midlakes junior Callie Walker continues to carve out her own basketball legacy.

The younger Walker, a center known for tough interior defense, received the ball with her back to the basket, dribbled to her right, pivoted and scored just before time expired in the B2 Section V Girls Basketball Semifinal against Penn Yan at Honeoye Falls-Lima.

Two days earlier, Cara Walker propelled SUNY Morrisville into its first NCAA Tournament appearance after the Mustangs claimed its first United East title with a win over Gallaudet University. Cara, a freshman guard, was named tournament Most Valuable Player after leading the Mustangs with 20 points, six rebounds, and five assists in the championship final.

The Walkers played together during the Screaming Eagles run to the State Championship during the 2018-2019 high school season. Their teammate during that magical season, Alaina Forbes, scored 25 points for Niagara County Community College as the Thunderwolves won the NJCAA Division II title on Sunday. Forbes, who graduated in 2019, was named to the All-Tournament team.

Midlakes is scheduled to take on Wellsville in the Class B2 Final at 6 p.m., Friday, March 4 at Rush-Henrietta High School.
